about

This popular jig was composed by Donald MacPherson. A loud melancholy "coor-li" is the cry that gives the curlew its name. The Curlew is common over moorland in upland Scotland and this jig was inspired by watching a curlew flying over the Scottish moor. We have used the Scottish Smallpipes together with MIDI pipes, bassoon and percussion in this arrangement. The Curlew is a Red List species due to is rapid population decline.
