about

This tune was written by the Tyneside fiddler James Hill in the 19th Century and commemorates a public house called the Hawk. It is also known in the Scottish Borders as The Faudenside Polka. There are several types of hawk in the British Isles but the most common is the Sparrowhawk. Hawks are much persecuted and are now protected.
