The Great Skua

from Birds by Gordon Mooney and Barbara Mooney

/

about

The Great Skua (Fasgahdair) or Bonkskie as it is known in Shetland is an agressive bird that will fearlessly drive away people and animals from its nest site. It is a pirate and will attack other birds and steal their food. It is truly a bird of the Northern Islands and will travel large distances over the ocean in search of food or on migration to Spain or Africa.
