The Cheviot Rant was written by Bill Miller a piano player with the Cheviot Ranters dance band. I first came across this tune in the Alnwick Pipers Society tunebook (1981) and from the playing of Joe Hutton. The tune has almost become an anthem for Northumberland. I wrote the Sciatic Rant while recovering from a slipped disc in 1996. Although I wasn't dancing I was ranting up Lauder High Street.
